Limitations

Udio settled copyright lawsuits with Universal Music Group in October 2025 and signed licensing deals with Warner Music Group and Merlin. A separate licensed platform called Starstruck is in development. During the licensing transition, downloads were temporarily disabled; verify current availability before subscribing. The free tier is more restrictive than competitors, limiting users to roughly 3 songs per day compared to roughly 10 on competing platforms. The learning curve for style tags and inpainting is steeper than simpler prompt-only interfaces.
